Reference/Background Sources

As part of your contributions this week, you might think about sharing the topic you selected for your research, how you selected your topic, the resources that you selected and how you searched these resources (the strategy you used) for information on your topic.

I chose the topic of "Financing Professional Theater", something near and dear to my heart. I ended up finding several helpful reference articles on theater history in the Gale Virtual Reference Library and an interesting article on Arts Funding written in 2005 in Issues and Controversies. It was hard to choose only two articles because so much looked interesting!

Originally i wanted to seriously explore the idea that there may be therapeutic aspects/benefits related to viewing pornography - but after doing a little uh investigative work, i realized this would ultimately be "a question that doesn't fly" and scrapped it. So, the topic i decided to run with is GMO's in food. Perhaps a less risky topic, but this has interested me for the past few years. and importantly, I COULD FIND RELVEVANT ARTICLES ON IT! the (tentative) focus is on how Agri-Corporate Conglomerates are basically able to distribute these products to the general public without labeling the package: "CONTAINS GMO'S" - so i'm trying to develop a consumer "right-to-know" angle. The GMO's themselves, and the science behind it, isn't especially interesting to me. But the idea that virtually anyone who doesn't grow, nurture and/or kill their own food, is a lab rat - this interests me greatly. Because despite the (scientific) research, GMO Recombinant Engineering is a relatively new trick & i don't think we're quite aware of possible long term "glitches" (ie illness, pestilence, and death on a mass scale) that could arise. On the other hand, if all is well, GMO's could end world hunger.
So far, I have only used CQ, Issues, and Gale. they have proven to be sufficient (so far). I searched by using Boolean Operators, and keywords. i didn't employ very difficult search methods - i tried to, with the advanced search features, but had practically no fruition with that. clearly i have skills to sharpen. to be continued...

Thanks for sharing with your topic here is mine

Illegal immigrant is my favor topic for this research. I am very interest to expand the knowledge of process for illegal immigration. Since I move to MN from New York, I discover that the issue of illegal immigration is invisible to many of us. However, this issue is in debate in with political leaders. Yet it seems to me that we are ignoring the road of cause the issue of alien. This topic is impact my personal journey to America and I experienced for unexpected event, so I want learn more about this issue and why there are no solution.
I got to different article through the research. The first article (illegal and immigrant) and second is (immigrant and detention polity). Bothe of this articles emphasis about how law is operated with illegal immigrant

i have been doing a lot of research and there are a lot of topic articles. My topic of chose would be hydrogen fueled cars and the need to change to an alternative fuel source. We Americans have been using oil and coal to power our cars and homes for past 100 years. will will run out and its bad for our environment.

I know I am a little late with my contribution to post, but was pretty worthless this week due to illness. I chose alternative medicine for my topic with an emphasis on holistic medicine...not really sure which direction I am going with this subject quite yet. I currently am enrolled in the western herbalism program at MCTC

I see people are I'm still trying to narrow down my topic, which is federal funding in higher education. I had trouble at first trying to just choose a topic because of the sheer number of fascinating subjects out there. I have completed the assignment using that topic, but I still think it's too broad. I might change to arts programs in high school, a topic that would be a little more personal, but not entirely. Or, state-wide resources for homeschooling, that would be VERY close to heart. One thing I've discovered is that I love CQ, Issues & Controversies, and Gale so much. They're infinitely superior to Google as academic resources. Absolutely amazing. I had used academic search engines before, but these are even better.
